OBJECT DESCRIPTION

IC 2220 lies nearly 2º from the brilliant open cluster NGC 2518 in Carina. At first I thought it was a reflection nebula but the Ha channel did not collected too much information. Looking from some info I learned that is a emission nebula. The central giant star reflects its mass loss of dust and gas. Mass loss is not displaced equally in all directions but it is thought that the material is distributed via magnetic fields, electric fields or the rotation of the central star.

The nebula has a bipolar shape and it was discovered in 1908.Not much pictures nor information was found. The colour balance was done by checking the stars around. IC 2220 can be seen with a 20 mm telescope on rural areas.
